Thread veins, also known as red veins or spider veins are a common problem troubling many women. They are unsightly and can cause discomfort, especially in the legs.

The causes of these unsightly veins are unknown – sometimes they run in families but old injuries may play a part as may long periods of sitting or standing. As more women than men develop this condition, hormones such as the pill and hormone replacement therapy probably play a role.

Sclerotherapy is a technique which has been firmly established in America and Europe for many years. A small amount of Sclerovein, a prescription medication is injected into the vein. This causes the wall of the vein to stick together, empty of blood and ultimately disappear.

Clients who have had sclerotherapy rarely report any discomfort. This is because the needle that is used is extremely small and most people only sense a small scratch. There may also be a slight tingling sensation in the skin for a few seconds after the injection.

Minor side effects do occur in some people. Slight swelling and redness around the vein may appear soon after the injection has been given. This disappears over two or three days. Sometimes a small area of pigmentation can occur at the site of the injection but this gradually fades. The veins themselves darken as they are shrivelling before resolving.

Treatment can be arranged through this clinic. An initial consultation must be made to complete a medical questionnaire and discuss sclerotherapy. Our customers have benefited from our advice and guidance in Sclerotherapy and other treatments including; Botox, Rejuvenation and Pigmentation.

I used to hate the summer because instead of wearing shorts, I would wear light trousers or pedal pushers so that I didn’t have to show the ugly red veins on my legs. Red veins run in my family and I thought it was something I just had to live with. I don’t know why I put up with them so long.

After discussing what treatment was available I learned that I could have lighter veins treated with a machine but larger ones would respond better to an injection. I opted for the injection.
The course of treatments were simple and effective with the veins getting lighter each treatment. I was so pleased with the results. I started having my legs treated during the winter months when I could cover them up and this summer I have worn shorts whenever I could, weather permitting.

I’m now getting the few veins on my face treated too and I would recommend anyone suffering with red veins to do something now. This is not something you have to live with.
